Mukilteo Seniors Association

The purpose of the Mukilteo Seniors Association (MSA) is to enhance the quality of life for senior citizens of the greater Mukilteo Community.

Well, ‘if April showers bring May flowers’ as the saying goes…we’re in for quite a treat, with flowers and other plants already decorating our landscape! Speaking of April, did you know that we had over 70 attendees at our April luncheon who were treated to a very informative presentation by Joanne Mulloy, President of the Mukilteo Historical Society. In addition, our main entree was a variety of delicious pizzas from Garlic Jim’s, a neighborhood pizzeria right here in Mukilteo! Joanne provided fascinating data on some of Mukilteo’s history, with emphasis on the Lighthouse Park along with the Historical Society’s role in maintaining significant documents and operating the Lighthouse and Gift Shop for visitors. Volunteers also keep the grounds looking pristine, making it a local gem and one of Mukilteo’s main attractions. Please consider volunteering and lending a hand whenever you can. Thank you Mukilteo Historical Society for overseeing and tending to our precious Lighthouse landmark and beach area!
Speaking of Lighthouse Park, much appreciation goes to all community members who participated in the cleanup at Lighthouse Park and the surrounding beach area on April 18th to commemorate Earth Day. Mukilteo Seniors Association was proud to participate with so many other ‘giving’ organizations, groups and individuals who contributed in helping clean up our environment. Thank you to our City staff who coordinated this worthwhile effort!
At our last Wednesday ‘Coffee and Conversation’ from 9:30-11:00am, we had the pleasure of small table conversations with several Mukilteo Police Officers! It was very lively, friendly, humorous, informative, respectful and, yes, there were doughnuts! Come on by some Wednesday, you never know who might show up!
Ah, MAY…the month known as the bridge between spring and summer. Be prepared for plenty of days filled with sunshine and the majestic beauty of blooming flowers…along with various pollens (achoo!) that can stimulate allergic reactions! The start of outdoor grilling, farmers markets, donning the Bermuda shorts, sunglasses, backyard cookouts, picnics, water sports, vacations, and the list goes on & on for ‘fun in the sun’! Also, it’s national hamburger, salad, and salsa month! To name a few health related topics, it’s Women’s Health, Mental Health, Arthritis, and Melanoma awareness in May. And, can you believe, it’s also Older Americans Month? Well, that does it...I’m going to clear my head, put on some sunscreen and Voltaren, grill some hamburgers with salsa on the side, and toss a salad and lounge in the backyard!
Mother’s Day is May 11th. It was signed into law in 1914 by President Woodrow Wilson, designating the second Sunday in May as a national holiday.
Memorial Day is May 26th, observed on the last Monday in May. It was first observed May 30, 1868. It is specifically for mourning and honoring those who died while serving in the military.
“May the month of May be a month of sunshine, happiness, and endless blessings for you.”
Jim Steinhubel, President
Mukilteo Seniors Association
